The pledge was created by S. Rajaratnam.
Commonly, the pledge is recited every morning in primary to junior colleges after singing the national anthem. Other occasions that the pledge is recited includes the National Day Parade.
In the past, the pledge was often said in the different languages, although the practice has been phasing out, with people mainly reciting in English.
